This Skill Badge recognizes skills in editing, revising, and preparing writing for publication. Students demonstrate the ability to adapt work for audience and purpose, provide and apply editorial feedback, and understand the publishing process across platforms. The badge acknowledges that AI tools may be present in editing and publishing, but validates students’ ability to perform these skills independently and discern when AI support is appropriate.

Earning Criteria

ENG-203 Creative Writing Workshop: This course introduces students to the writing of poetry, short stories, plays, and autobiographies. The course includes some model readings, but the main work is student writings in all four genres.
ENG-112 College Writing II: This course focuses on development of thesis-driven essays supported by multiple sources and tailored to a target audience. Students will gain competency in synthesis, analysis and evaluation of multiple sources as well as demonstrate proficiency in conducting research and applying MLA and/or APA format.
ENG-234 Literary Publishing: This is an experiential learning course in which students take on the roles of writers, editors, administrators, and designers in order to publish a college literary magazine. Activities include writing and developing creative content; selecting manuscripts and artwork for publication; editing, designing and formatting magazine pages and covers; corresponding with contributors; magazine proofreading; producing, promoting; and coordinating a public reception.
Students who complete this badge participate in an employer and faculty co-designed workshop where they apply the Writing and Editing for Publication skills they learned in their coursework in workplace simulation scenarios.
