Earners have learnt the importance of always following the correct internal safeguarding processes when concerned that a student is exhibiting signs of trauma.

Earners have gained understanding of a range of techniques that could be used to support students to feel safe in the classroom, such as not standing between the student and the door.

Earners have learnt about a range of ways to approach conversations with students they are concerned about, including not being intrusive or suggestive as this could be re-traumatising. Earners have also understood that any conversation around trauma or traumatic events must always be initiated by the student, unless safeguarding concerns are present.

Earners have learnt skills around supporting students who may display behaviours not usually expected within a classroom setting, including changes to language used and providing students with enough space and time to calm down.
