Currently enrolled University of Arizona students who have been selected by a university department or program to serve as a peer mentor can earn this microcredential to represent the transferrable skills developed in this key student service role. Peer mentors serve as a supportive, listening ear, accountability partner and trusted guide and resource for other students through intentional training, practice and experience. This credential recognizes the skillset developed in the this role.

Earning Criteria

Recipients must be selected to serve as a peer mentor through a selection or application process approved by a University program or department, such as Peer Mentoring, a TRiO program, or other program offering peer mentoring, A recipient cannot accumulate the skills without being selected and supervised in a peer mentor role.

Recipients complete an asynchronous training program that includes: Active Listening for Student Staff, Trellis & Documentation for Student Staff, Peer Mentoring, and Best Practices in Mentoring Undergraduate Students. Assessment is through completion/certificate of completion of EDGE training. Earners complete 25 documented, one-on-one meetings with a mentee as documented in a CRM of a program's choice.

Recipients also complete at least 4 hours of in-person training to develop and practice skills learning asynchronously. The supporting program or department staff verify completion. Earners receive 5 hours of supervised support in the form of synchronous one-on-one meetings, group/staff meetings, or continued training. Time can be accumulated in one form or a combination.
