Earners of this microcredential critically and responsibly apply artificial intelligence (AI) tools in public health research, implementation science, and global health practice. Through live instruction, demonstrations, case studies, and hands-on exercises, earners explain basic AI concepts, identify appropriate use cases, evaluate ethical, equity, and bias considerations, and use generative AI to support literature reviews, data analysis, and program implementation.

Earning Criteria

Complete in-session hands-on exercises using generative AI tools, demonstrating responsible prompting strategies and critical appraisal of AI-generated outputs. Exercises are reviewed by the instructor.

Attend booster session held midway through the Global Health Emerging Scholars (GHES) fellowship year to reinforce learning, address emerging tools, and support application of AI to the fellow's project.

Attend and actively participate in three 3-hour live sessions (nine instructional hours) combining interactive lectures, live demonstrations of AI tools, case studies in public health and global health, and ethical discussion and reflection activities.

Submit a short applied artifact linking the module to the fellow's own work (for example, and AI-supported literature review protocol or an AI use plan for the fellow's research or implementation project.) Evaluated by faculty using a rubric.
