The earner of this certificate has been employed and appointed by the Office of First Year Programs to serve in various leadership roles both in and out of the classroom, as pertaining to incoming first year and transfer students. This earner has passed various training modules and learning exercises that demonstrate their ability to connect, communicate with, and mentor first year students, as well as serve the greater campus community through acts of service and collaborative projects.

Earning Criteria

The earner of the Pioneer Transition Mentor badge must be both an Orientation Leader and First Year Experience assistant in the same calendar year/ recruitment cycle. In addition to serving in both roles, the earner must have completed associated trainings in the prior summer, written posttests, outlined community service and group work, as well as successfully co-facilitated, with their instructor, a First Year Experience class section.

Earners must be verified by the Office of First Year Programs as having been employed by the office and passed all necessary checkpoints before receiving the badge.
