Science of Reading
The Science of Reading (SoR) microcredential builds upon the knowledge and ability to plan research-based systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing while introducing additional elements such as pedagogical approaches, reading motivation, executive functioning, and flexible strategy use. This microcredential meets requirements of Senate Bill 362 (Strong Readers Act).

Earning Criteria

Successfully complete EDUC 4413 Literacy Assessment and Intervention (3 credit hours).

Demonstrate knowledge of principles and evidence-based instructional practices for developing word analysis skills and strategies, including syllabication, structural or morphemic analysis, and orthographic skills.

Demonstrate knowledge of principles and evidence-based instructional practices for developing reading fluency at all stages of reading development.
