Start It Up Goals. In this program, learners activate their entrepreneurial mindset by developing and pitching an original business plan. As they learn about the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, they also learn how to think and act entrepreneurially within any career path that they decide to pursue.
-
Activating the Entrepreneurial Mindset. An entrepreneurial mindset is a set of skills that enable people to identify and make the most of opportunities, overcome and learn from setbacks, and succeed in various settings. An entrepreneurial mindset is valued by employers, boosts educational attainment and performance, and is crucial for creating new businesses. NFTE incorporates the entrepreneurial mindset in all that we do.
-
Lean Startup Methodology. The Lean Business Canvas is a 1-page business plan template created by Ash Maurya. It is a valuable tool used to organize a business idea. Compared to a traditional written business plan, it helps learners deconstruct their idea into its core elements visually, and allows them to quickly test and iterate on its fundamental assumptions.
-
Showcasing the Business. Learners create an investor pitch deck that effectively communicates the information in their Lean Canvas. To help with this endeavor, NFTE has created a template based on Guy Kawasaki's "10 Slides You Need In Your Pitch." These slides also contain tips on what information should be on each slide and where learners can find that information in their Lean Canvas.

The course includes 14 modules that guide students through a step-by-step process from business ideation to launch. Participants follow 14 steps to complete an initial draft of a business plan. Each step contains a lesson and an assignment to build a piece of the plan.
