Foundations of Volunteering is an online, pre-volunteering module that examines the role of volunteering in contemporary society, the political, social, and cultural context in which volunteers work, and the ethics and accountability of individuals and the volunteer sector. Prior to commencing their volunteering activities, students must work through all sections of the module and successfully complete the two quizzes.
-
Students must undertake a minimum of eighty hours of volunteering in an approved not-for-profit organisation/s. The volunteer hours must be completed within a three year period and across no more than five organisations. Students maintain a log of their completed hours, which must be signed off by a supervisor at the conclusion of their volunteering placement.
-
This reflective assessment is undertaken after the volunteering hours have been completed. The assessment requires students to apply what they have learned during their volunteering experience to one of three possible assessment task topics. Through the chosen task, they must demonstrate a satisfactory understanding of ethical volunteering, social impact and community engagement skills.
