The First-Year Experience digital badge acknowledges accomplishments within the first two semesters of a student's journey as they enhance their knowledge of the college, embark on career exploration and learn strategies that are beneficial to academic and professional success.

Earning Criteria

Students must attend New Student Orientation (NSO). Students unable to attend the in-person program will engage in an online NSO once the in-person program has passed.
Students must attend at least one event on the Weeks of Welcome calendar. These campus-wide signature events are designed to help students establish connections, learn about additional college resources and encourage involvement with the campus community.
Students must pass the Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course (SPARC) with a passing minimum score of 80%. A certificate is automatically generated as proof of completion. Students are asked to take a photo of the certificate to show at a later date.
Students will attend two Student Success Sessions of their choosing. These sessions are designed to support students as they progress toward their academic and professional goals. Students may learn about majors, strengthen problem-solving skills, navigate college resources and increase self-awareness.
Students will engage with Focus 2 Career, a self-guided system that assists with major exploration at York College and introduces potential careers. Although students are encouraged to finish all five sections of the platform, students will meet the criteria by completing the Work Interest Assessment, Personality Assessment and Skills Assessment.
Students will set up an account and take one LinkedIn Learning course of their choosing. Courses vary in topic with the common goal of enhancing marketable skills. A certificate is automatically generated as proof of completion.
Students will attend one program sponsored by The Counseling Center. Session topics include anxiety, depression, procrastination, decision-making, relationships, conflict-management and more.
