Earners of this badge are aware of our institutional past, including our perceived and actual history as these have been impacted by systemic racism. They have an understanding of how VCU’s organizational culture, climate and identity came to be. Understanding our history allows us to better understand how we have affected and been affected by our surrounding communities. Activities also included learning about healthcare’s role, and specifically VCU Health’s role, in promoting social justice.

Earning Criteria

Attend at least four sessions and one Let’s Talk reflection opportunity. The History and Health series includes events and learning modules. Topics cover the history of the Medical Campus of Virginia and its intersections of health equity, health disparities, systemic racism, and social justice. Completion time is 4-5 hours.
