Experiential Mechatronics at AMRoC Fab Lab offers hands-on Machine Shop Essentials and an introduction to factory automation systems. Led by MIT Fab Academy–certified instructor Vicky Gonzalez, the program includes 16 hours of on-site training covering safe use of tools, laser cutting, parts production, robotics basics, CAD, and simple coding for automation.

Earning Criteria

Active engagement throughout the course

Earner will complete at least one hour of workshop basics training, including an overview of shop safety, use of bandsaw, drill press, belt sander, hand and power tools.

Earner will demonstrate understanding of Workbench essentials through the production of at least one machined part.

Earner will complete at least one hour of laser cutter training, including an overview of safe use, basic maintenance, and settings

Earner will demonstrate understanding of design software for laser cutting, and produce at least one item.

Earner will demonstrate basic understanding of fundamental types of manufacturing automation systems.

Earner will use block code programming to instruct a simple “BoxBot” training robot to move “supply” from one location to another on a test field, either autonomously or through a teleoperation mode.
