Earners participated in the PhD Plus - Research Communications Series, Level 1, which exposes trainees to the fundamentals of communicating their research to diverse audiences. Participants learn how to craft engaging and clear messages, practice communicating their research through different mediums, and gain experience using communication tools and techniques. Participants can design a communication product for a non-specialist that aligns with the desires and uses of their target audience.

To receive this badge, earners participated in three or more 2-hour sessions (minimum of 75%), including actively engaging in workshop presentations, discussions, and hands-on activities, as well as completing assignments between each workshop. The series required participants to research a target audience and identify an appropriate communication product, then craft a clear, engaging research story using plain language that avoids jargon and technical terms.
