Earning Criteria

Training that meets the NHDES Green SnowPro Salt Applicator program’s training requirement must provide at least 5 hours of comprehensive winter maintenance information focused on achieving high levels of service through efficient operations and material usage.

Topics covered in achieving this badge: The chemical properties of salt with respect to its ability to melt snow under ambient conditions, including but not limited to pavement temperature, air temperature, and dew point; Calibration of salt spreading equipment; Calculation of salt application rates; Effective use of salt brine for anti-icing; Effective use of salt brine and other liquids for pre-wetting salt; Effective plowing techniques; and New technologies for de-icing and anti-icing.

Learners must complete a post-workshop exam. Passing score is 27/36 (75%).
