This program prepares UNLV faculty, instructors, and graduate teaching assistants to teach and mentor a diverse student community in alignment with UNLV’s mission. Participants learn asset-based teaching practices that value students’ knowledge, lived experiences, and strengths; develop strategies that foster engagement, belonging, and rigor; and challenge deficit-based narratives. An NSF-funded initiative created by UNLV faculty, adapted and facilitated by the UNLV Teaching & Learning Commons.

Earning Criteria

Attend a minimum of four Asset-based Teaching workshops.

Choose a syllabus for one course you plan to teach and assess the syllabus using the "Auditing Your Syllabus Table." Revise the syllabus to incorporate asset-based pedagogy.

Write a reflection about the choices made in the revision and how the revisions reflect asset-based principles.

Upload the revised syllabus with track changes and a completed "Auditing Your Syllabus Table" to the appropriate Google Folder for review.
