Student Well-being Champion

The Student Well-being Champion Badges (Levels 1 & 2) equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and resources to support students’ mental health and well-being from crisis to resolution. Participants build foundational and advanced understanding of individual, interpersonal, and community well-being concerns, including substance use, relationships, and supporting survivors of interpersonal violence, and learn how to respond effectively to students’ unique needs.

Earning Criteria

Learners must complete 8-10 hours of Enhanced Workshops that will deepen their knowledge of individual, interpersonal, and community influences on a student's well-being. At least 1-2 workshops per quarter will be offered throughout the year that covers topics such as: responding to suicidal ideation and students in ongoing crisis, men’s well-being, navigating substance use conversations, bystander intervention, supporting a survivor, and others to be added later.

After completing the appropriate number of workshop hours, learners must submit a portfolio (individually or departmentally) on how they plan on integrating what they’ve learned into their work. The portfolio will consist of a written reflection and a submission of artifacts that demonstrate the ways they are embedding well-being advocacy into their work.

Workshops for this badge meet the knowledge, skills, and topics centered in the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA)'s Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education's initiatives to support and develop student affairs professionals working towards cultivating wellness in our institutional communities.
This badge aligns with the second dimension of University of Denver's Four-Dimensional (4D) Framework in holistic student development, which is Develop Well-being. Develop Well-being is described as embracing healthy behaviors and decisions, giving ourselves grace, nurturing our spirits, and cultivating positive relationships.
