Through robust field data collection and data analysis, badge earners acquire a fundamental understanding of at least three of the following: 1) metadata of specific datasets, 2) primary & secondary spatial data collection protocols, 3) integration of data into a geographic information system (GIS)/mapping project, 4) analysis of data using qualitative and/or quantitative methods, and 5) presentation of results and conclusions to an audience of peers, professionals, and/or laypersons.

Completion with a minimum of 87% (B+) of one 3-4 cr. hr. fieldwork-focused course: Field Studies (GES / GEOL 4460 - 4), Geologic Field Methods (GEOL 4110 - 3), Inequality USA (GES 4680 - 4), Urban Ecology (GES 4460 - 4), or Forest Geographies (GES 4280 - 4)

Completion with a minimum of 87% (B+) of 2 - 3 cr. hrs. of data collection and data analysis-focused individualized instruction: Honors in Geography (GES 4970 - 3 cr. hrs.), Independent Study (GES 9400 - 2 or 3), Senior Thesis (GES 4990 - 3), or Undergraduate Research (GES 9499 - 2 or 3)

Participation in an individual or group poster or paper presentation at a research conference (e.g., Colorado Springs Undergraduate Research Forum (CSURF), Mountain Lion Research Day (MLRD), Americal Association of Geographers (AAG) annual or regional meeting, American Geophysical Union (AGU), or similar) that includes results and conclusions stemming from the analysis of data collected in the field.
