Sustainability Innovation

The Sustainability Innovation micro-credential provides learners with a foundational understanding of sustainability and an overview of projects and initiatives implemented at CU Boulder. Learners participate in workshops that teach them creative problem-solving techniques, and how to effectively communicate their findings and ideas to innovate sustainability to key stakeholders. Learners will showcase their skills in a project proposal or presentation.

Earning Criteria

Learners create a capstone proposal or presentation in which they analyze a sustainability issue, identify viable solutions, and effectively communicate the solutions to supervising judges. The capstone is assessed with a published rubric.

Complete and pass the CU Sustainability course in Skillsoft.

Attend the Impact Accelerator and participate in a design workshop using campus climate action goals and the UN SDG principles as frameworks in order to generate ideas for campus climate action projects.

Attend a project-based learning development workshop to engage in proposal writing, stakeholder engagement, and systems thinking. Participants gain mentorship and tools to build out and identify support for project proposals.

Complete a 1:1 mentoring session with a sustainability mentor.

American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Learning Outcomes from Toward a Sustainable Future
STARS is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. It is offered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. (AASHE). This micro-credential aligns with the campus as a living lab and student life and engagement credits.
