The Master Academic Success Coach (MASC) badge was created to recognize achieved competency and professionalization for Academic Success Coaches. MASC’s partner with an advisor to provide outreach and assistance to undergraduate students. MASC’s work 1:1 with students to identify barriers, assistance in overcoming barriers, and provide holistic support for academic success. MASCs may also serve as a teaching assistant for UNIV courses, and assist with leading student workshops/presentations.

Earning Criteria

Students must complete the Certified Peer Educator (CPE) Training through NASPA, and pass the certification exam. CPE Training is a 12-hour course that facilitates the development of leadership skills by covering the role of a peer educator, helping peers make positive behavioral changes, as well as the development of skills such as, listening, response and referral, intervention, recognizing the role of diversity and inclusivity, programming, presentation, self-care, and group dynamics.
Students must have worked as an Academic Success Coach for at least two full semesters before they are eligible to earn this badge.
Students must have received a positive performance evaluation with the ratings of meets or exceeds expectations in all areas, and the overall rating.
Students meeting all of the above criteria, must be subsequently nominated by their supervising Academic Success Advisor.
