The instructor for the course is a certified interpreter/translator. The English-Spanish Legal Translation digital badge is offered in collaboration with the National Center for Interpretation, University of Arizona.

Learners explain the role of global and pragmatic factors in professional translation and the role of text types, genres and parallel texts in translation; exercise professional argumentation skills in group discussions; list basic resources and research tools available to translators and use them successfully; demonstrate professional awareness; explain personal strengths and weaknesses regarding a variety of translation jobs and situations; exercise basic customer education skills.

To earn the badge learners complete 10+ translation tasks appropriate to a beginning professional level, dependent upon the student’s level of Spanish proficiency, a 16-week online course in translating, interpreting, and cross-cultural communication within a legal setting, pass the midterm and final exams, and complete all weekly assignments.
