Earning Criteria

The University of Arizona Online Legal Translation badge is awarded to students who successfully completedthe online, non-credit Spanish Legal Translation course with a grade of C or higher. Students graduate with a beginning level of professional proficiency, equivalent to a 3 or 3+ on the Interagency Language Roundtable for Translation Performance for commonly translated texts in the business domain.
Learners explain the role of global and pragmatic factors in professional translation and the role of text types, genres and parallel texts in translation; exercise professional argumentation skills in group discussions; list basic resources and research tools available to translators and use them successfully; demonstrate professional awareness; explain personal strengths and weaknesses regarding a variety of translation jobs and situations; exercise basic customer education skills.
To earn the badge learners complete 10+ translation tasks appropriate to a beginning professional level, dependent upon the student’s level of Spanish proficiency, a 16-week online course in translating, interpreting, and cross-cultural communication within a legal setting, pass the midterm and final exams, and complete all weekly assignments.
