Media Advocacy for Human Rights

Participants can identify and define a human rights theme, group, or organization to support through media advocacy. They can then design a media advocacy campaign including skills such as: a digital storytelling strategy; creation of compelling web content; constructing a social media advocacy plan; and devising working with the press. They reflect critically on the experience.

Earning Criteria

Complete short assignments for each of several distinct skill sets as well as a larger final project in which the skills are actively exercised.

The final project requires the active integration of the skills with a primary emphasis on one of the skills. Students present their final project in an online forum and provide a critical reflection on the experience. Approximate time involvement: 10-12 hours over one-semester.
