Within the Department of Geography, Planning, and Sustainability in UAlbany's College of Arts and Sciences, this 10 credit Community Planning graduate-level microcredential program includes three (3) graduate credit courses and a Capstone project preparing learners with the skills needed for a career in community planning including knowledge on how to bring together residents, experts, and local governments to guide the physical, economic, and social growth of a neighborhood or city.

Earning Criteria

Learners will be proficient in the following: key issues facing community development professionals, analysis of the effectiveness of one or more community development programs and creation of community development plan/s and provides strategies and evaluation of their impacts.

Students have learned strategies to help stakeholders define shared goals, manage land use, create equitable housing, and improve local infrastructure. The microcredential includes theory and practice on how to manage public engagement to ensure that neighborhood development reflects the needs of its residents and businesses.
