This 10-hour optional curricular micro-credential is designed to build expertise in the delivery of instruction for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and use sign language as a primary means of communication. It requires demonstration of a toolbox of research-based best practices that leverage visual strategies. It’s only available for TWU degree-seeking students in the M.S. in Education of the Deaf.

Earners will integrate evaluation of features of visual language features including use of space/location, non-manual markers, fingerspelling, classifiers, and ASL grammar by conducting a language sample analysis or a BRI reading inventory.

Earners will produce a deaf history lesson or a lesson plan over language, literacy, or differential communication.

Earners will either collaborate with an ASL specialist to develop language IEP objectives or engage in a co-teaching experience on visual language skills.
