Established in July 2016, SAIL Institute evolved from SUNY Leadership Institute, Presidential Onboarding and a general need to create a stronger leadership pipeline.​ Our vision for SAIL, is to become a globally recognized entity promoting the development and research of innovative leadership in the academic setting.​ ​Our mission, as a system-wide institute, is to develop and provide cutting-edge leadership and professional development training for faculty, staff, and students.
