Foundations of Creative Writing

Earners will have demonstrated foundational skills in creative writing in several genres such as short fiction, creative non-fiction, drama, and poetry. Through textual analysis, writing, and editing in workshop-based classes, earners will have honed their craft as creative writers and prepared for professional fields such as writing, publishing, marketing, and editing. They will have expressed their diverse experiences and identities and learned the value of their unique, powerful voices.

Earning Criteria

Earners must complete EL 3901, Introduction to Creative Writing, with a grade of B or better.

Earners must complete two of the following with a grade of B or better: EL 3920, The Art of Writing Poetry; EL 3950, Creative Nonfiction; EL 4100, English Internship (Harmonia Editorial Board); or EL 4520, Reading and Writing the Short Story.
