Foundational Counseling Skills

Earners will be able to identify personality traits, assess personality, and understand personality disorders. They will recognize symptoms of mental illness and identify potential diagnoses using current major systems. Earners will be able to evaluate various psycho-therapeutic approaches and consider issues of diversity in studying personality, identifying abnormality, and providing therapy. Earners will be able to conduct interviews and provide preliminary assessments for intervention.

Earning Criteria

Earners must complete PY 3311, Theories of Personality, with a grade of B or better.

Earners must complete PY 3310, Abnormal Human Behavior, with a grade of B or better.

Earners must complete PY 4320, Counseling Psychology, with a grade of B or better.

In addition to the courses required for the Micro-Credential, earners will have taken PY 2010, Introduction to Psychology, and PY 3010, Research, Design, and Analysis to satisfy the prerequisite requirements of the required courses.
