Fundamentals of Pitch and Harmony

This course offers new music learners a foundation in the study of music with a specific focus on pitch and harmony. Students develop an understanding of core musical concepts through short lessons, each paired with an untimed quiz that allows students to demonstrate understanding. Additionally, timed quizzes help students develop the fluency required for reading and analyzing music.

This course is ideal for students seeking to understand the foundational elements of music and music-reading. The student will work through eleven modules in the following subjects: pitch, keyboard and letters, treble clef, bass clef, grand staff, half and whole step intervals, scale, key and key signature, interval numbers, interval qualities and inversions, and triads.

Students will develop the ability to read and analyze fundamental aspects of notated music with appropriate fluency. Students learn to identify/construct: keys on the keyboard, pitches in treble and bass clef, major and minor scales, key signatures, intervals, and triads.
