Earners of the CSE badge have demonstrated not only their spirits knowledge, but have validated their tasting acumen and teaching ability. This intense undertaking comprises a theory exam, two tasting exams and a presentation skills demonstration. Earners are entitled to use the CSE post-nominal as part of their professional signature. Earning Criteria

Pass the high-stakes tasting portion (Spirits Tasting Rationale and Comparative Spirits Tasting) of the proctored CSE exam by writing a tasting rationale for two different spirits and then semi-blindly identifying, comparing and contrasting three spirits via a tasting note. To pass the Spirits Tasting Rationale section, candidates must score a minimum of 21 out of 30 for each spirit, and to pass the Comparative Spirits Tasting, candidates must earn a minimum of 76 out of 100 possible points.

Pass the Presentation Skills Demonstration after successfully passing the theory and tasting exam portions of the CSE exam. Presentations are submitted electronically and candidates are assessed via a rubric that accounts for content, audience engagement, organization, oration, and professionalism. A minimum score of 65 out of 100 points is required to pass.
