The Cantor Training digital badge recognizes that students have gained foundational skills for the role of cantor in a Roman Catholic parish. The badge focuses on the practical aspects of cantoring as outlined in the liturgical documents General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) and Sing to the Lord (STL), as well as musical/technical skills needed to lead a congregation in song.

Earning Criteria

Experience Requirements: Participate in 4 Music & Liturgy Workshops, Complete 12 individual cantor coaching sessions, and Serve as Student Cantor for 6 masses at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit

Obtain positive evaluations from directors and faculty members on performance as a student cantor

Pass a practical exam demonstrating the ability to select, sing, and lead appropriate music. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, including punctuality, commitment, and a positive attitude in all rehearsals, performances, and program-related activities.
