Faculty Learning Community: The Science of Successful Learning
Badge earners have explored and researched best practices for successful learning supported by recent findings in cognitive science; identified areas that might be improved in a current or future course given research findings; and developed a course syllabus that applies a minimum of two research-based principles of learning discussed in the faculty learning community, including rationale for decision and possible strategy for collecting evidence-based data.

Submit an application for acceptance to the faculty learning community (FLC) program including CV/resume and written description of qualifications and learning goals.

Participate actively in a three-month blended/hybrid format faculty learning community (FLC) to explore the most recent findings in cognitive science, the characteristics of the adult learner, and instructional best practices in the college setting. This includes an average of 3-5 hours per week to complete readings, learning journals, group discussions, and project development. Additionally, they are required to attend three 2-hour face-to-face meetings and two 1-hour virtual meetings.

Design a syllabus that incorporates strategies based on learning science. The project also includes the design of a personalized rubric for the project, peer review, and a written rationale of 1-2 pages.
