Wind Energy Basics

Earners of this badge will gain a big picture perspective of the Department of Energy’s Collegiate Wind Competition as well as background knowledge of the wind industry, wind resource assessment, and wind energy financial analysis OR wind turbine design and operation. Earners are able to analyze wind resource data, conduct a basic cash flow analysis for a wind project and process raw wind rotor performance and generator data.

The educational experience includes five lessons each with readings, videos, and knowledge based quizzes.

Requires a passing grade of 75% or greater on all assessments and activities in the first 3 lessons, and in one of the final two lessons.

The successful completion of three projects unique to the learner's educational experience.
