Working with Children with Special Needs (ECE 203)

The course objective is to give the student a broad overview of special education, including research and laws that authorize and fund early education and preschool special education programs. Content also includes the design of buildings, rooms, and outdoor facilities to accommodate children with special needs, as well as the use of technology to enhance the special education environment.

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, written papers, and discussion boards with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include computer-based training, study units, textbook, and optional open office hour session. The general course topics include early education and team building; human development; developmental risks and neurological; variations of development and sensory impairment; and programs and mandated services.
