The course objective is to introduce the student to the many different elements that comprise employee benefits. The knowledge the students gain from this course will not only help in their careers as benefit specialists, but also understand the history and the many governmental issues concerning benefit programs today. Upon completion of the Employee Benefits course, the student will have gained an understanding of the total employee benefit planning process.

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, written papers, and a comprehensive final exam with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include discussion, textbook, and a digital study guide. The general course topics include defining employee benefits; group insurance; group medical expense benefits; group dental insurance and other group insurance benefits; planning for retirement; and profit-sharing and similar plans.
