The course objective is to provide a history of criminal law. Students will study crimes and their underlying elements, consider what a prosecutor needs to show in order to secure a conviction, examine strict liability and victimless crimes, discuss a range of criminal offenses, crimes of violence, administrative crimes, and consider the excuses, justifications, and defenses to the prosecution of such activities

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, written papers, and a graded comprehensive final exam with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include discussion, textbook, and a digital study guide. The general course topics include general principles of criminal liability; crimes against persons; crimes against property, habitation, and public morality; and defenses and punishment.
