This course objective is to provide instruction in advanced critical thinking, reading and writing skills. Students will employ the steps in the writing process to research and write essays using different patterns of development including extended definition, illustration/literary analysis, comparison and contrast, and argument.

The methods of assessment include quizzes, examinations, and written papers with a minimum passing score of 70 percent.

The methods of instruction include practical exercises, lecture, textbooks, and study guides. The general course topics include a review of the writing process; planning a research paper and evaluating sources; finding sources, taking notes, and synthesizing; drafting, revising and formatting a research project; definition: explaining what you mean; reading and writing about literature; comparison and contrast: showing similarities and differences; and arguments.
