Teaching Struggling Readers
Earners of the Teaching Struggling Readers certification will be able to demonstrate competency in developing strategies to enforce a range of reading needs related to the five stages of literacy and developing a remediation plan. Learners also gain an understanding of how to stage the physical environment, create positive social interactions, and present content to a range of groupings.

Achieve a grade of C or higher in EDUC 5603: Methods of Teaching Struggling Readers

Earners will create a research-based handbook to target reading remediation approaches for the five stages of literacy.

Earners will develop instructional strategies, routines, and assessments using both informational and narrative texts to meet the literacy needs of whole class and groups of students and design a physical and social literacy-rich learning environment conducive to diverse reading needs.

Earners are competent in methods and assessment of teaching reading remediation and enrichment for PK-12 learners.
