Early Literacy
Upon completion of the workshop, the attendee will have awareness on the importance of creating a literate environment. Specific ideas and strategies to engage students in literacy, an ability to select text to support emergent literacy, and a plan for establishing literacy routines will be reviewed and practiced. Attendees will learn how to integrate literacy into the early childhood setting, and be more confident with their abilities in their current professions.

Earning Criteria

To successfully complete the workshop, attendees must score a 75% or better on the following: a fill-in-the-blank quiz used to measure identification of a literate environment; open-ended written questions to measure development of strategies and activities to support early literacy and establish literacy routines to reinforce reading and writing skills; and an identification assessment to measure selection of text to support emergent reading.

Earners will explore and reflect on a wide range of genres within children's literature to assist the classroom teacher with meaningful resources that support the literacy environment.
Standards
The International Literacy Association (ILA) standards and information provides the content benchmarks forthis workshop. All reading and literacy programs that are accredited use these standards. The development ofthis workshop will reflect the ILA standards and expectations.
Effective teaching standards will follow Marzano's Strategy for Effective Teacher. This model will be used todetermine the learning objectives and ultimately what makes an effective teacher.
