This course is designed for educators teaching Oklahoma’s Academic Standards for Health Education (OAS-HE) in either stand-alone courses or an integrated curriculum approach. Throughout this training, participants will identify, discuss, and apply research-based best practices for implementing high-quality, skills-based instruction. By focusing health education instruction on skills and essential knowledge, participants will enable students to develop lifelong healthy habits and lifestyles.

Earning Criteria

Learners examine skill development actions to identify components of strong lesson plans and adapt assessment rubrics for skills-based health education. They analyze and select instructional strategies that are most appropriate for teaching health skills to adapt lesson plans which incorporate best practices. They create teaching plans that integrate other subjects or include movement ideas. Resources and best practices for incorporating standards into lessons are investigated.
