The micro-credential provides learners and job-seekers with the essential knowledge to navigate media proficiencies and vocations. Students will learn the viewpoints and implications of mass media formats and development, with the aim of providing credential holders the ability to develop relevant media concepts. Students will investigate media literacy and practices, media ecology and media ethics as they apply concepts to create media content in diverse formats.

JB 1013 Introduction to Mass Communication - students will investigate the principles and practices of mass media. The course will include a rigorous inquiry of mass media from the perspectives of media literacy, media ethics and the development of media formats across the historical textual, visual and digital age. Students will produce media as they apply course concepts and develop diverse creative content. Student must successfully complete course with a minimum grade of “D” or higher.

JB 1133 News (Media) Writing - the student will become familiar with and proficient in the use of various news gathering and news writing techniques common to both the print media and the broadcast media. The student will demonstrate mastery by writing acceptable news stories, features, human interest stories and interpretive reports. Typing skills are required.
