This badge introduces the student to the basics of the (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial & IPTV) portion of the broadband industry. Primary areas: RF & IPTV transport, Basic installation, Print reading and Set-top box administration. Students will perform installation of customer equipment and teaching the customers how to properly use the equipment; basic trouble shooting - finding and repairing trouble in materials and equipment.

Related instructional courses provide technical ability and a basic understanding of the broadband industry as well as the overall site development. Students receive related instruction style training that complements the on-the-job learning. This instruction helps refine the technical and academic skills that apply to the job.

•Explain the evolution of Hybrid Fiber Coaxial and IPTV networks •Compare coaxial and ethernet characteristics •Analyze outside plant installation practices connecting the subscriber to the headend •Outline the troubleshooting method of subscriber drop •Identify system maps •Interpret RF and IPTV services •Communicate effectively to customer-related issues

Students will complete badge course related instruction at satisfactory level. Student will complete work experience component supervised by mentor or department manager at satisfactory level.
Standards
This badge is part of a customer service badge. The badge is a joint initiative with Northwood Technical College and NTCA, the Rural Broadband Association. Upon completion of four badges related to broadband level one skills, students will receive a Broadband Customer Service Specialist badge.
