NU@Work: Data Warehouse Basics for Thornton Tomasetti
Issued by
Northeastern University
Recipients learned about relational databases, data modeling, and Structured Query Language (SQL). They learned how to interpret database structure through Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) models to facilitate quick understanding of the dimensional architecture of the data. They learned how to use the ERD and database schema to create ETL processes associated with addressing specific data questions that can be answered through the amalgamation of data from multiple sources.
Earning Criteria
-
Create a dimensional model of a data set to provide answers to business questions
-
Use an ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram) to identify tables to join for data extraction
-
Use SQL for data queries and data integrity checks
-
Use SQL to create denormalized tables for extraction to BI tools (Excel in this case)
-
Ask questions that help identify the strategic use of the data and interpret the information
