Specific Learning Disabilities Awareness (SLD)

Completers will be able to recognize students who exhibit Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia and understand how to screen and support them in the classroom. They will be able to analyze student work, adapt instruction using evidence-based strategies, integrate assistive technology, and mitigate the impact of SLD to create inclusive learning environments.

Earning Criteria

Earners must complete: ELED 4363 Number Sense and Operation: Content and Pedagogy and READ 4213 Remediation for Dyslexia and Struggling Readers with a "B" or better.

SLO 1. Recognize students who exhibit signs of SLD and determine when additional screening is needed.

SLO 2. Analyze student work and design unit adaptations that embed evidence-based strategies to mitigate SLD-related learning barriers.

SLO 3. Create a professional resource synthesizing classroom strategies for SLD support.
