Positive Behavioral Supports-ASD

Teacher candidates will utilize Applied Behavior Analysis and other evidence-based behavioral analyses to collect efficient data on behaviors of students with ASD and students with other disabilities to develop Functional Behavioral Assessment and Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans. Teachers will also learn how to implement a school-wide Positive Behavioral System.

Earners must complete: SPED 5303 with a grade of B or better.

SLO 1. Core and associated characteristics of individuals with developmental disabilities/ASD; Sensory challenges of individuals with developmental disabilities/ASD.

SLO 2. Provide individuals with developmental disabilities/ASD disorders strategies to avoid and repair miscommunications; Plan and implement instruction and related services for individuals with developmental disabilities/ASD disorders that is both age-appropriate and ability-appropriate.

Implement instructional programs that promote effective communication skills using verbal augmentative/alternative communication systems for individuals with developmental disabilities/ASD; Use instructional strategies that fall on a continuum of child-directed to adult-directed in natural and structured context.
