Master Addictions Counselor (MAC)
The Master Addictions Counselor is the premier certification for addictions counselors. Earners of the MAC certification have voluntarily met high standards for the practice of addictions counseling. They are competent in skills related to human growth and development, social and cultural foundations, helping relationships, group counseling, career counseling, assessment, research and program evaluation, and professional counseling.

Earning Criteria

Documentation of 36 months of work experience and supervision in an addictions setting. Twelve months of this experience and supervision may be completed prior to the conferral of the graduate degree.

Applicant was required to earn passing score on the Examination for Master Addictions Counselors (EMAC). This is a proctored exam on addictions counseling competencies complete with identity verification at an NBCC-approved testing site.
