Participants of the Wheel-Rail Interaction Professional short course understand the fundamentals of designing, maintaining and operating a safe and efficient wheel-rail interface. They understand the key issues and concepts relating to wheel-rail interface design, practical application of friction management and vehicle dynamics, and have knowledge of wheel and rail damage mechanisms and how to prevent or reduce them.

Complete the Wheel-Rail Interaction – Railway Fundamentals two-day course, delivered by the Monash Institute of Railway Technology. This requires completion of topics such as wheel-rail interface design, its management and factors influencing deterioration. Participate in group activities to work together to embed knowledge about friction management techniques, factors influencing rail and wheel damage, and sources and mitigation of induced noise and vibration.
