This Monash Tech School initiative is co-designed with Professor of Digital Technology and Society, Yolande Strengers from Monash Faculty of Information Technology – an award-winning specialist in Al and smart devices.

Students have participated in an interactive design-sprint session that explores the history and ethics of voicebots and the societal influences on voice assistant software development.

Students have participated in a Fabella Tech Tutorial and learned the basics of building a voicebot prototype. Students have simulated user testing by embodying their voicebot personalities in a 'Wizard of Oz' format.

Students have shared their designs with, and applied feedback from industry experts including those from the Women in Voice Australia & New Zealand Chapter, Monash University Faculty of IT Academics, and PhD Candidates.

Students have explored design aspects including colour, shape, rotation, speed, and size.

Using basic scaffolding principles and processes, students have mapped their voicebot's emotion states.

Using a P5JS web application, students have implemented their emotion state map to visualise their voicebot.

Students have worked in small groups to present their prototypes to peers, academics and industry professionals.

Using zoom, students have incorporated online communication skills, such as tone of voice, facial expression and body language, to present their prototypes and receive feedback from industry professionals. With their cameras and microphones on, students could articulate ideas and interact professionally.
