Smart Food - Immersion Day

Through an on-site visit of the Yakult Australia's advanced manufacturing facility, earners have a foundational level understanding of lab skills used at Yakult to ensure quality health food products. Earners can work in teams to complete science communication/public health challenges. Earners have attended an immersion day at Yakult, delivered in collaboration with Monash Tech School.

Earning Criteria

  • Lab Skills - Earners learn and perform laboratory protocols that are used in the lab to support activities at Yakult and similar Biotechnology companies. This includes basic analytical tests such as water quality testing, counting/visualizing bacteria, using Brix test to measure sucrose level, and more.
  • Science Communication - Earners choose to address a public health issue either through public messaging, product development, or both. After selecting a public health issue of interest, students have formed groups, researched the public health topic of interest, and developed unique public messaging to help raise awareness towards the issue. Each group have displayed and presented their topic of interest and messages on a poster communicated to the rest of the class.
