The MSUM Advisor Certification Program is a comprehensive training used to develop individual advising skills and competencies. Session topics include advising methods and developing an advising philosophy, navigating advising relationships and conversations, prescriptive advising components, advising special populations of students, student resources at MSUM, and assessing advising.

Earning Criteria

Participation in 12 hours of training (8 sessions) including: advising resources and system, guest speakers, group discussions, and self-reflection. After completion, participants will be better able to: develop collaborative relationships in support of advising, establish effective advising relationships with students, support students through the technical aspects of advising and registration, articulate a personal philosophy of advising, and effectively refer students to campus resources
