The earner of the Experiential Learning badge can assess textbooks, identifying features and content that helps them learn, in order to recognize textbook features that make learning easier and articulate and privilege those features. The earner can apply theory in a real-world context and advocate for the type of learning material best suited to their personal learning style.

Earning Criteria

Attend training sessions to learn how to identify pedagogical aids in math and science textbooks. Develop skills in problem solving, research and analysis.

Use quantitative and qualitative survey tools to evaluate sample chapters from math and science textbooks. Integrate and apply knowledge and skills to new settings and complex problems.

Use a rubric to write final summative reviews for textbooks that were reviewed. Demonstrate knowledge and skills through written and oral communication to both internal and external audiences.

Inform community college students and faculty about the benefits and weaknesses of OER textbooks. Demonstrate civic knowledge and engagement through involvement with diverse communities and real-world challenges.
