Leadership Skills for Doctors is an ILM Recognised programme of learning and assessment, created and delivered by Praeceptor Consulting for doctors of all levels wishing to enhance their management and leadership skills. The programme aims to develop business knowledge and skills by building on existing skills, increasing self-awareness and providing theory, techniques and tools to develop leadership and management skills in a healthcare setting.

Earning Criteria

NHS Organisation – This individual has knowledge of the structure and organisation of the NHS. They understand how doctors fit into the system and how funding is obtained through payment by results.

Leadership vs management – This individual has developed an understanding of the different roles of leadership and management and how these apply to their role as doctors. This individual has identified their preferred leadership styles and awareness of how this may impact on their role, clinically and professionally.

Influencing others – This individual understand different ways of influencing and persuading others which includes patients and other healthcare professionals and how their own influencing style may affect outcomes.

Managing change – This individual has an awareness of the impact of change on people and how to manage change effectively using a range of tools including stakeholder analysis. They understand the use of Gantt charts, force field analysis and communication matrices.

This individual has completed an assessment that confirmed their knowledge and skills in their own Leadership journey.
Standards
The programme falls within the ILM Footprint of Leadership, Management, Coaching, Mentoring and Enterprise. It is well structured with appropriate governance and management to deliver consistently high-quality learning outcomes and objectives. Learners are fully supported and receive recognition for their achievement.
