Fundamentals of Scientific Diving

Issued by Florida International University (FIU)

Developed within the Aquarius Reef Base (Institute of Environment - College of Arts, Sciences, and Education), this badge recognizes knowledge of the physics of diving and its effects on human physiology. Earners can identify diving-related injuries and associated remedies, and understand safe research dive planning, operations and equipment. Earners fulfill partial requirements to become certified scientific divers through FIU.

Earning Criteria

Successful completion of learning modules to gain a fundamental understanding of Scientific Diving as it pertains to the physics of diving and its effects on human physiology, diving-related injuries and associated remedies, as well as safe research dive planning, operations and equipment.
Successful completion of related module quizzes, addressing the learner’s understanding on various topics within Scientific Diving.
Successful completion of a reflection paper where learners demonstrate how the competencies gained can be utilized to further personal, professional and/or academic goals.
